Antique Furniture Restoration

We specialise in antique furniture restoration and we can restore any piece to its former glory. We carry an extensive stock of salvaged period materials from different centuries including timber, cabinet fittings and handles, even old screws and nails – all to use in order to match the appropriate style and date of each piece.

Professional restoration and conservation requires appropriate matched materials and detail. Whilst recycling has (at last) grown in popularity in recent years, we have been building a valuable stock of period materials and recycling for over 40 years.

Contemporary Furniture Repair and Restoration

We carry out refurbish work to all styles and types of modern and post war furniture, including many pieces by contemporary design houses, we are recommended by Ercol Furniture as an approved specialist restorer.

French Polishing

We also offer a full french polishing service, ensuring that your furniture remains in pristine condition and is protected from everyday usage. We are still very much a traditional company and as such we still use traditional french polishing techniques and oil waxing techniques.

Wax and Oil Polishing

When appropriate we would recommend traditional wax and oil polishing, as this may be more in keeping with the period of your piece.

Architectural Historic Joinery Restoration and Finishing

Often working in conjunction with other specialist contractors we carry out polishing and finishing to panelling, staircases, doors, and fitted furniture both on site and in our workshop in York.

New Build

Many new builds include installations of significant joinery and timber features. Installers frequently apply simple varnish(!) or leave the piece raw and untreated.

We produce bespoke finishing and treatments for new build installations working in conjunction with interior designers and architects to bring out the full beauty of a wood installation. Our craftsmen will work on site to polish and finish, new architectural commissions including bespoke staircases, panelling, doors and floors etc. We utilise our traditional and latest modern techniques to achieve excellent results.

Cabinet Making

We also offer a full cabinet making service. This is ideal if you require an additional item of furniture to fit in with an existing collection, but is proving impossible to find. A well made replica using all the original specifications will fulfil your requirements.

Disaster Recovery

Disaster such as flood or fire can sadly befall us all.

We often hear of the disposal of perfectly recoverable furniture that can be professionally restored. Working closely with insurance companies and loss adjusters for over 40 years we can offer a comprehensive service to manage and recover valuable fire or flood damaged pieces. At a time of great distress our customers find the return of valuable furniture often with family ties and memories and beautifully restored, helpful and emotionally supporting. It also avoids the time and trauma of seeking replacements.
